There is nothing for “us” after death. All the khaṇḍas are completely perishable. Viññāṇa makes us abstract the self out of the Totality. Viññāṇa will cease to tear us out of Totality and we become aware of the Whole. The brain becomes silent — we wake to the Unitary Wholeness.
