A talk given by Phiroz Mehta at Dilkusha, Forest Hill, London on 16th April 1982
Reconsideration of silence. Suṣupti. Discursive thought stops. Vitakka-vicāra ceases in 2nd jhāna. Early Indian Religious Thought page 321 quoted. We die to the mortal and rise into the Immortal. Stopping discursive thought — let it happen, not by an act of will. The next death is at the 4th jhāna. The 3rd takes one into cessation. Silence is of the utmost importance.
