A talk given by Phiroz Mehta at Dilkusha, Forest Hill, London on 14th September 1980
Man is composed of the divine androgyne and the mortal androgyne. Bṛihadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 1.4.1. and 3 considered. Puruṣa — he who has burnt up all evilmindedness. “He was as man and woman closely embraced”. “He caused this to fall apart — hence arose the Sovereign Lord and the Sovereign Lady”. This, out of Ātman, is the divine androgyne. Our task is so to live that the earthly androgyne becomes the perfect reflection of the divine androgyne.
