The Holy Ones gave their teaching at a Transcendent level. Yājñavalkya's discourse to Maitreyi (Bṛihadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 4.5). "Not for love of the husband is a husband dear, but for the love of the Ātman is a husband dear." Ātman, "in the beginning" is called puruṣa. Puruṣa was as a man and woman closely embraced. Pure creative activity, not desire-driven, is the origin of love.
